چکیده

[1] Using 456 data sets under bank-full conditions obtained from various sources, the geometric relations, derived in part 1 [Singh et al., 2003], are calibrated and verified using the split sampling approach. The calibration of parameters shows that the change in stream power is not shared equally among hydraulic variables and that the unevenness depends on the boundary conditions to be satisfied by the channel under consideration. The agreement between the observed values of the hydraulic variables and those predicted by the derived relations is close for the verification data set and lends credence to the hypotheses employed in this study.

Channel geometry of mountain streams in New Zealand

A dataset of 21 study reaches in the Porter and Kowai rivers (eastern side of the South Island), and 13 study reaches in Camp Creek and adjacent catchments (western side of the South Island) was used to examine downstream hydraulic geometry of mountain streams in New Zealand. Streams in the eastern and western regions both exhibit well-developed downstream hydraulic geometry, as indicated by st...

Estimation of river discharge, propagation speed, and hydraulic geometry from space: Lena River, Siberia

[1] Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS)–derived measurements of Lena River effective width (We) display a high predictive capacity (r 2 = 0.81, mean absolute error < 25%) to forecast downstream discharge conditions at Kusur station, some 8 d and 700 km later. Satellite-derived mean flow propagation speed (88 km d 1 or 1.01 m s ) compares well with that estimated from ground da...

Downstream variations in the width of bedrock channels

Field surveys of channel width w and drainage area A in bedrock channel reaches reveal relationships where w 5 cA, similar to the classic hydraulic geometry of alluvial channels. Data from five mountain channel networks support the assumption used in many landscape evolution models that an alluvial hydraulic geometry relationship where b 5 0.3–0.5 holds for bedrock channel systems. Although the...

مقایسه آزمایشگاهی میزان استهلاک انرژی در شیب شکن‌ها

Drops are the most important and common hydraulic structures used as energy dissipators in irrigation networks and erodible waterways. Dissipation of energy occurs in two different ways. One portion belongs to the geometric form of the structure (briefly called loss due to structure), whereas the other occurs due to happening of hydraulic jump downstream of the structure. The dimensions of drop...
